The Associazione Golfisti Italiani Disabili (Italian Disabled Golfers Association - AGID) was created in 1998; its aim was to promote golf among disabled players. In the same year the AGID joined the Federazione Italiana Golf (Italian Golf Federation – FIG).
In 2004 the Association became a Federation: Federazione Italiana Golf Disabili (Italian Golf Federation for Disabled - FIGD). With this new structure, the FIGD could associate other sport clubs and join the Comitato Italiano Paralimpico (Italian Paralympic Committee – CIP).
Since 1999, it is member of the European Disabled Golf Association (EDGA); within the EDGA the FIGD helps on dealing with medical problems and organizing contests and championship.
At the moment thirteen Associations are members of EDGA.
